[RE: Originality]
A return to the original essence of the Eastern Coastal shaman music and traditional percussion
Composed solely of percussion music, RE: Originality highlights the intricate and skillful percussion arrangements and rhythms that are unique to the Eastern Coastal (Donghaean) shamanic music. The "primitiveness," "improvisation," "relationality," and "immediacy" of Donghaean shaman ritual (Byeolshin Gut) are manifested through the relationships between performers and performers, performers and audience, and audience members themselves, which are formed differently in each performance. By taking on the role previously held by female shamans who led the flow of the traditional gut and performed rituals and songs, a male percussionist breaks down the gender and role boundaries between the shaman and the musician, and through various musical experiments and variations, maximizes the temporal and artistic value of Donghaean folk music, which has evolved into the 'living tradition' of the present, along with its percussive characteristics.
