Journey to Korean Music 2019

Back to the Future : FeelAk, Hwang Gina, Sung Seulgi x Cho Eunhee, Kim Namryeong

Back to the Future
Past and Future is the best words that could describe the Korean emerging musicians and the meaning of traditional music : how we as individual and the next generations define tradition and why we are doing it. The traditional music reflected the times and the life of ordinary people in the past and it has descended and been alive because it contains the universal truth that we sympathize as a human being. In other words, the future was described in the past within the traditional music, and now the past becomes the future just like a time slip. In this showcase, four music groups with different colors were presented : Traditional Percussion, FeelAk, six-stringed zither, Geomungo, musician, Hwang Gina, a folk singer and a sound artist,

Sung Seulgi x Cho Eunhee, and Haegeum musician, Kim Namryeong.

FeelAk(樂) "Three"

FeelAk consists mainly of the bearers of namsadang nori,  literally "all-male vagabond clown theater". They launched with the idea of reflecting the meaning of "three" in Korean traditional culture and music and of creating the rhythm of "three" in music. They analyzed and deconstructed the Korean tradition of Gyeonggi-do style rural folk percussion, and the rhythms and beats of shamanic ritual music to reconstruct onstage music composed solely of triple rhythms.
